How I Got Started

Laura.jpg

My love for journalism originates from when my family had cable, and we had a handful of 24/7 news channels. I was glued to watching the national news for hours, flipping back to the local channels and then back again. Most of my peers at the time were watching Disney Channel or Nickelodeon, but not me. I would retell the top headlines at our family's nightly dinner and was told by my mother that I was a "walking encyclopedia," spilling with information.

When not watching TV, I worked on my family's farm. Since I was little, the agriculture community has had a special place in my heart. I loved seeing the beauty of agriculture; I started photographing crops, old barns, tractors, and so forth to create yearly videos and FFA fair projects.

Currently, I am the Managing Editor at the Linn News in Central City, Iowa and the Journal-Eureka in Amamosa, Iowa. I manage the weekly content, editorial staff and assignments along with writing articles on local issues and features affecting the community

When I am not working, I still use my photography skills, finding Iowa's beautiful landscapes or helping local organizations cover events.

It can be said that my mind never sleeps as I am always thinking about what I can do to share the lifeline of agriculture and rural America through my work.
